adventures in london: feb 4 - may 12.

So I’ve got seven postcard stamps and only twelve days left in London. If you want a postcard let me know, otherwise these stamps are gonna go to waste!

A couple of days ago there was a rainbow after a very rainy day, indeed a rainy week, over the buildings right around ISH.

Today (most) of my Contemporary Britain class went to a football match (soccer game) with our professor. We sat in the section for Brentford, who were playing one of the Sheffield teams. It was nuts. The chanting was all good and fun until it turned out that there were some Sheffield fans sitting in the Brentford section around us and were forcefully escorted out by security guards, which basically meant a bunch of drunk men of all ages shouting extremities at one another, such as “NORTHERN SCUM!” and “WANKER!”, until dragged out of the stadium. It was still a lot of fun and definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity that we all enjoyed very much.

The photo of the game is actually an action shot of Sheffield fouling Brentford, which led to a goal kick, which resulted in the one goal that Brentford scored in the entire game. They ended up losing 2-1 and we were all happy that we were not wearing their colors afterwards.

During each Contemporary Britain class the staff at Connaught Hall brings our class tea, coffee and cookies. However, today our guide Sara brought us a whole homemade cake! It was red velvet and delicious, although I couldn’t finish my whole piece because it was so sweet.

On Wednesday night we got to Barcelona. Yesterday was rainy and cold but today has been sunny and warm! Although it is becoming more overcast now as big rain clouds pass over.

We had chicken paella for lunch today and then wandered around until we finally found the beach. Mollyemma and I both put our feet in the Mediterranean :)

This week was the best I’ve had here the entire semester. Celina came to visit me for eight full days and my rash/stress hives disappeared within 24 hours of her being here.

On Wednesday for Modern European Art we visited the Tate Modern Museum, which is across the river from St. Paul’s. Afterwards Celina and I ate at Starbucks (don’t judge) and then took the bus home.

The last photo was either Tuesday or Wednesday night, I can’t remember as we did so much every day this week, when we went on the London Eye during sunset.

Yesterday my Contemporary Britain class visited the Imperial War Musuem and the best part was by far the Holocaust Exhibit. It’s a lot different than the one in DC, as it does not completely overwhelm you with emotion right away. I found myself much more interested in seeing every section of the exhibit because I was learning, whereas at home I avoid parts of the Holocaust Museum because I don’t want to sob in public!
The gift shop was also pretty fantastic.
